KWC Presents: KOEI Tecmo Game of the Year 2017!

Posted by Shaun Player on Jan 3, 2018
Posted in: All, Articles, General, News & Announcements. Tagged: GOTY, GOTY 2017, Gust, KOEI, KOEI Tecmo, Omega Force, Team Ninja, Tecmo. 1 Comment

It’s the start of a new year, and a fresh return from us here at KOEI Warriors and KOEI Warriors: Conquerors! But what better way than to kick off 2018 other than presenting our esteemed (and VERY desirable) Game of the Year 2017 award and Runner Up award for KOEI Tecmo’s releases! So without further ado, our awards!

To start off with, KOEI Tecmo has released a slew of games in 2017, from a variety of “Warriors” spin-offs, new IPs and more Gust JRPGs for our playing pleasure, but there are a certain few that stood out of the pack! Though quite a few have been quality titles (with a few duds), the game we are awarding GOTY really stood it’s ground and showed us (in our opinion) an amazing gaming experience.

Though before we get to that, let us start off with our runner up! There were a few that could of easily taken this slot, however this title in particular we thought was a good bold step in the right direction from KOEI Tecmo on what hopefully we will see more of in the future.

Samurai Warriors: Spirit of Sanada get’s our Runner-up award for delivering a meaningful story filled with emotion and depth we rarely see in the main Warriors entries. Focusing heavily on the rise and fall of the Sanada clan, introducing new character Sanada Masayuki (Father of Sanada Yukimura / Sanada Nobuyuki) and a bunch of other unique characters it really was a wild ride! From when we started as a simple subsidiary of the Takeda clan to the infamous conclusion of the Sanada brothers, we were hooked from start to finish.

We very much hope KOEI Tecmo will continue in this style focusing on other stories within Samurai Warriors, Dynasty Warriors or even other Historical periods yet to be covered. It is definitely a much more impacting way to get these amazing stories across.

Honourable mentions go to Fire Emblem Warriors for being a standout entry in the Warriors’ spin-offs, along with Nintendo’s input much like Hyrule Warriors (which we gave our GOTY 2014 to). However with too many characters sharing the same move sets, characters already in the game locked behind a DLC paywall and the variety of content just not being up to the standard we had hoped, this just misses out. Though a console Warriors game on the go is a sure fire way for a great time!
-Also no online, boo you Nintendo and KOEI Tecmo.

Now onto the meat of the awards, our riveting KT GOTY 2017 award! It may of been quite predictable to some, but here is the game we give our award to!

Ni-Oh! A surprisingly entertaining action heavy new IP from KOEI Tecmo and Team Ninja. When the gaming industry has been stuck in a rut with constant sequels and remasters, we see this masterpiece of an action hack ‘n slash title hit the Playstation 4 in early February. Boasting similar qualities and difficulties now known to be called “Souls-like”, Ni-Oh mixes fast paced action (ala Ninja Gaiden) with increasingly more difficult challenges and enemies to face off against.

A story focused heavily on the Sengoku Jidai war between Tokugawa Ieyasu and Ishida Mitsunari, you play an Irish Warrior named William from England in search for a precious metal known as Amrita. Taking your travels to Japan to hunt down the mysterious Edward Kelley, you get yourself involved in the Warring States with a splice of mystical paranormal tales mixed into the story and adventure.

We absolutely adored this game, praising it’s gameplay to high regards with how swift and satisfying the action feels. Though the game might be difficult for some, persevering through it to get better is very much worthwhile as this is a gem of a title buried in a slush of mediocre releases. Filled to the brim with content, a long story, side-missions and a large chunk of DLC all released (and included in the Complete Edition – out now on PS4 and Steam), you can spend hours upon hours playing this game and still have more to do! This admin has already clocked over 500 hours alone on it!

Fans of Ninja Gaiden, Dark Souls type games or any action heavy hack n slash games we recommend this highly for. Get after the initial difficulty spike and you won’t regret it!

And that is it for 2017! We know there were a bunch of other great games released by KT that year also, but this is of course our opinion! So be sure to share with us your thoughts, if you agree, don’t, or have other KT games you’d rank as your GOTY 2017, stick ’em in the comments!

Have a great 2018 KOEI Tecmo! And all you Conqueror’s out there!

We will return in 2018!

Hey everyone! We want to first appologise for the lack of content or generally anything going on with the site or any branch of KOEI Warriors: Conquerors these past couple months. Long story short personal issues have cropped up with key members of the team and that has put us at a standstill. However instead of leaving you all hanging with wondering what is going on, we thought we would put this up to keep you all up to date!

We will be resuming our journey forward from 2018, so don’t expect anything new from us til then, but when it happens things will move smoothly and you guys will have a LOT to look forward to from us. So stay tuned, have a great holiday and a happy new year!

From your friendly neighbourhood KOEI Warriors Team~

Hertfordshire, 24th October 2017 – Earlier today, KOEI TECMO hosted a Titan-sized live broadcast from the global headquarters in Japan detailing a massive news update for their upcoming action title A.O.T. 2, the sequel to 2016’s hit action game. The mouthful of news included the always anticipated release window—A.O.T. 2 will be released in March 2018 on the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, Nintendo Switch™, and digitally on Windows PC via Steam®.

Delving deeper into the series’ fascinating narrative, the game will have fans experiencing the gripping events of the anime’s second season along with versatile action gameplay, all new challenges, and a wide selection of playable characters from Attack on Titan, including some new faces from the second season!

During the broadcast, KOEI TECMO introduced a selection of playable characters in A.O.T. 2, while simultaneously unveiling the ability for players to create their own Custom Scout. They also confirmed that players will be able to play as; Eren Jaeger, Mikasa Ackerman, Armin Arlert, Levi, Miche Zacharias, Nanaba, Gelgar, Ymir and Christa Lenz.

A.O.T. 2 will feature enhanced Titan movements and attacks, requiring more precise manoeuvres from players. Additionally, it introduces the Monocular; allowing scouts better analysation based on pinpointing Titan positions from afar and attack strategy utilising their Omni-Directional Mobility Gear.

Outside of their excursions, Scouts can also deepen their relationships with fellow comrades by training and preparing battle with the new and improved Town Life gameplay. Strengthening relationships is an important element of A.O.T. 2, providing a greater insight into the series’ cast in a way that has yet to be experienced.

KOEI TECMO released a selection of brand-new assets showcasing the Monocular and Town Life features, alongside a first look at the playable characters to be featured on the game in its launch in March 2018.

Fire Emblem Warriors Season Pass details!

With the recent release of Fire Emblem Warriors on Nintendo Switch and New Nintendo 3DS, we now have a lot more information on the also released Season Pass for the game. You are able to acquire the season pass (separate purchase for each version) for $19.99/£17.99/€19.99, and in doing so will also grant you a free costume for Lucina (Bridal Outfit) as of the purchase. But what exactly are you getting for your hard earned cash? Well fear not, it is a bevy of content, even if some of it is slightly disappointing.

Pack #1 – Fire Emblem Fates
Release: December 2017
–3 new characters; Azure, Niles and Oboro.
–3 new History Mode scenarios.
–5 new costumes.

Pack #2 – Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon
Release: February 2018
–3 new characters; Navarre, Minerva and Linde.
–3 new History Mode scenarios.
–4 new costumes.
–6 new weapon types.

Pack #3 – Fire Emblem Awakening
Release: March 2018
–3 new characters; Owain, Tharja, Olivia.
–3 new History Mode scenarios.
–3 new costumes.
–7 new weapon types.

Now you might be asking. What’s wrong with that? It sounds like we are getting a lot of content in each pack. Well the disappointing fact is, Owain, Navare, Oboro and Niles are currently already in the game, just simply locked off as NPCs. Along with a lot of cloned movesets plaguing a lot of the characters, we can’t think these DLC characters will be much different to play as.

As with all season pass content, you are able to pay for these packs separately if you aren’t up for buying the whole lot. Each pack will cost $8.99/€8.99/£8.09 individually.

We are still currently unaware of any Free content update support like Hyrule Warriors received, but with certain villain characters missing from these packs, we can only hope they will come soon enough.

What are your thoughts on this Season Pass? Will you be picking it up? Let us know in the comments!

Dynasty Warriors 9 gets release date for Japan! +Season Pass announced!

We may still know relatively little on the Western release for Dynasty Warriors 9 other than an Early 2018 window, however we now know the official release date for it in Japan on PS4 (XBOX One and Steam as well for the West). The game will be releasing 8th February 2018. What could this mean for us in the west? That is still uncertain but we are sure it will likely be within months (if not a universal release week like Ni-Oh). News and speculation on how the localisation will be handled, such as there being an English dub or not is still up in the air. But this certainly means we are getting one step closer to checking out Omega Forces new take on the Warriors franchise.

Along with this news, KOEI Tecmo announced there will be a Season Pass for Dynasty Warriors 9. What it will entail is still undisclosed but we can only hope this isn’t the start of certain campaigns being locked off behind a paywall. Imagine having to pay to be a part of the Yellow Turban Rebellion or the Dong Zhuo Uprising? We will definitely be keeping a close eye on how things will progress.

Other than that, usual pre-order incentives were mentioned, such as collaborative costumes for Zhao Yun and weapon skins depending where you purchase the game – along with e Deluxe Edition of the game including the Season Pass being released alongside it. All pre-order incentives will become available for purchase later after release, however it is unknown if Season Pass holders will get them for free or not.

What are your thoughts on Dynasty Warriors 9 and it’s upcoming pending release? Are you excited or horrified at the aspect of a Season Pass? Let us know in the comments!
