It was The Game Awards last week, and with it you get the bevy of annual “World Premiere” announcements. Right off the bat of the awards, Nintendo and KOEI Tecmo dropped a trailer for the second expansion pack for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, called “Rise of the Phoenix”.
The expansion pack features new playable characters from the X-Men franchise such as the titular character Phoenix herself, and cult favourite Gambit. You can check the trailer out below:
Rise of the Phoenix expansion pack will launch December 23rd worldwide for all those who have bought the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 expansion pass. Below you can check out the brief description of the DLC:
Dark Phoenix, the infinitely powerful cosmic entity from one of the X-Men’s greatest sagas, unleashes an era of fiery destruction! Four more X-Men join the alliance with this downloadable content pack: Phoenix, Gambit, Iceman, and Cable. Plus, face-off against friends in the newly added Danger Room mode! Up to four players will compete to see who can take down enemies while being barraged by buffs and debuffs.
With new modes and characters, arriving just in time for Christmas! Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is out now exclusively for Nintendo Switch!

It has been a tradition for a long while now with Playstation that each month if you are a subscriber to their Playstation Plus service, along with being able to play online with other users, you will be able to download “free” games. The month of November however offers a goodie for those who have yet to experience this masterpiece.
Ni-Oh is now available as a free download for all those who subscribe to Playstation Plus, and will remain yours as long as you are part of the service. We gave Ni-Oh our KOEI Tecmo Warriors Game of the Year 2017 award, and we still think it is one of the best KT games of recent years.
So if you are a PS Plus subscriber and have yet to play Ni-Oh, what are you waiting for? Get downloading, and one bit of advice, push through the early levels and the game will have it’s grip on all your free time. You have been warned.
Have you played Ni-Oh before? Let us know in those comments!
We mentioned in our last post about Ni-Oh 2 that we have a bevy of information regarding the title. In continuation with the release date announcement (which we need to make a quick addendum to, Japan will be getting the game on March 12th 2020 instead of the 13th.), Sony have now launched an open beta for Ni-Oh 2.
As you may have noticed from the picture above, William is returning in this Beta to take on Japan’s oni once again. You can read the full details of the Open Beta below:
All players will be able to experience new elements such as our extensive character customization feature, our newest weapon—the Switchglaive, and so much more.
As you begin the beta, you will enter into a place called the Interim. Unlike the dojo tutorial from the previous game, the Interim is a safe zone where you will be able to choose your weapons, test out the basic moves and transition to a real stage when you are ready.
This place was designed and based on the Tibetan Buddhist concept of intermediate, transitional state between life and death. I’m actually very fond of the environment we created which is modeled after the Sanzu river surrounded in tranquility (similar to the river Styx from Greek mythology).
As you move on from the Interim, you will start your journey in a stage called Sunomata. This stage is based on the Sunomata castle which by some accounts was constructed in just one night by Hideyoshi. The experience will be an interpretation of historical actualities combined with a healthy injection of Yokai adventure!
In addition, this new stage will treat you to an impressive environment covered in autumn maple leaves. In a similar fashion to the cherry blossoms stage (The Village of Cursed Blossoms), we had the great fortune of highlighting another stunning time of year within Japan’s four distinct seasons.
If you are skilled and fortunate enough to conquer the beta, you will earn The Mark of the Demon Slayer—a reward entitling you to unlock the Kamaitachi Helmet from the in-game Shrine to use in the full game when it arrives next year.
With all the above information a new trailer specific for the Beta is now live too, which you can view below:
The Ni-Oh 2 open beta will be live from today until 10th November, open to all Playstation 4 players.
What are your thoughts on Ni-Oh 2? Are you hyped for March? Let us know in those comments!
We have a lot of Ni-Oh related news incoming, but the first is a major reveal. Ni-Oh 2 will be launching worldwide exclusively on Sony’s Playstation 4 this upcoming March 13th 2020 worldwide.
Set during Nobunaga’s reign in Sengoku Japan, you’ll create your own character with a vast character creation system and take on both Samurai and Oni, including numerous new monster designs not seen in the first iteration.
The game will be launching exclusively for Playstation 4. No news if a future PC port is happening, however keep an eye out for late 2020.
Are you going to grab Ni-Oh 2 in March? Let us know in those comments!
