Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 Scarlet is now just a couple weeks out from it’s launch in Japan (March 20th to be exact), and KOEI Tecmo Japan have now launched a new trailer showcasing the lovely Momiji and Nyotengu, enjoying their time at the beach. You can see the trailer itself below:

It is certainly looking to be a nice upgraded experience compared to it’s 2016 original release.

Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 Scarlet releases March 20th in Japan for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. As usual a reminder that the Asian version of the game offers full English support, so feel free to import it.

Dead or Alive 6 is currently hosting a Release Celebration Campaign within the game!

Right now within the game of Dead or Alive 6, there is a Release Celebration Campaign going on. This means for a limited time you will gain certain bonuses and certain rewards will be easier to collect. Specifically the Campaign focuses on increasing the amount of Costume parts you gain from beating battles in certain modes.

For those of you unaware, Costume Parts are what you need to be able to purchase in-game costumes with fighter money. When you have gathered enough costume parts for said outfit you can then buy it up in the Wardrobe.

As for the Campaign itself, you can read below what it includes:

DEAD OR ALIVE 6 release celebration campaign! Costume pattern parts quantity will be multiplied by 10 until March 14!

Release Celebration Campaign Boost – Rewarded costume parts quantity increased even further (max 100x more!)

The modes included are for RANKED MATCH, ARCADE, TIME ATTACK and SURVIVAL.

This event is going on now and will remain active until March 14th, so if you want the grind for those costumes to be far easier, then get your gaming time in now!

What are your thoughts on Dead or Alive 6? Have you been enjoying the game? Let us know in those comments!

Warrior’s Judgement: Dead or Alive 6 does an Oopsie with it’s first of many Season Passes.

Dead or Alive 6 launched just two days ago, and it has already dived head first in to some incredible controversy. While KOEI Tecmo has yet to dabble in the more nefarious microtransactions or the dreaded lootboxes (we won’t go into that minefield), they have gone deep into mass DLC offerings. Though nothing encapsulates just how bad things are getting than the very first Season Pass for Dead or Alive 6.

The first Season Pass costs £73.99/$92.99, yes almost double the price of the base game itself (even more if you get the game at retail in UK). What do you get for this high price of a Season Pass? Well let’s delve into the details straight from the Steam Page:

DEAD OR ALIVE 6 Season Pass 1.
This Season Pass will apply to 62 costumes and 2 new characters released during the period of March 2019 – June 2019.
Note: The release period is subject to change.

■ Season Pass 1 Bonus Content
– DOA6 NiCO Technomancer Gear
– DOA6 Nyotengu Wrestling Costume

■ Featured Content
– DOA6 Happy Wedding Costumes Vol.1 (13 Costumes)
– DOA6 Happy Wedding Costumes Vol.2 (13 Costumes)
– DOA6 Costume Pack Vol.1 (13 Costumes)
– DOA6 Costume Pack Vol.2 (13 Costumes)
– DOA6 Additional Character Mai Shiranui
– DOA6 Mai Shiranui Debut Costumes (5 Costumes)
– DOA6 Additional New Character
– DOA6 Additional New Character Debut Costumes (5 Costumes)

■ Note:
– The downloadable content included in this Season Pass will be release separately on later dates.
– Please visit the official website for more details: https://www.gamecity.ne.jp/doa6/
– Downloadable content not included in the list above may be released during the same period, but it will not be covered by this Season Pass 1.
– All content included in this Season Pass will also be sold separately. Please beware of redundant purchases.
– You must purchase the characters before using these costumes.

So two new characters and a bunch of costumes that are purely of cosmetic nature. To top it all off, none of the content (aside the Season Pass bonus) is even ready to release yet. That is one massive down payment for what leads to be such a lack of content. Even one of the fighters (an unannounced KOF collab) isn’t even known yet.

This has been a stark contrast to just how the industry as a whole has changed and how KOEI Tecmo are trying to squeeze every penny they can out of every piece of content – especially when back in the day all of these would of been simply unlockables by playing the game itself.

Let’s look back at Dead or Alive Ultimate on the original XBOX for example. Every character had 20+ costumes you could unlock by completing certain challenges, playing through story modes and other actions within the game. No added costs, no needing a license to unlock more, just gained through playing the game.

It is a shame also this stigma has to come along with Dead or Alive 6, as we shared in our pre-review impressions, the game itself is fun and filled with quite a lot of content on it’s own. Our full review will hopefully be arriving early in the coming week.

Our Dead or Alive 6 Pre-Review Impressions!

First of all we want to make it clear that these are strictly initial impressions of the game, we are working through it to get a proper review out in the early parts of next week. These impressions are also for the XBOX One version of the game, and may gloss over certain aspects we will delve into more in the full review (such as online play and any later game parts).

Dead or Alive 6 is the latest instalment to the Dead or Alive franchise, and as such comes with quite high expectations with the numerous launches and content updates the 5th instalment went through. With Dead or Alive 6 there are two main game modes – Story Mode and DOA Quest Mode. These are the two modes you will spend most of your solo play time with.

Let’s start off with DOA Quest Mode, this is kind of like a loot grind mode, where you take on specific set challenges with predetermined fighters to gain in-game currency along with costume parts. In-game currency can be spent on unlocking numerous extras and lore, as well as costumes for the fighters. However before you can purchase the outfits, you need to acquire their costume parts, which can be done so through this mode by completing all three challenges for each set mission.

Story Mode is the more beefy experience, which is riddled with well animated cut-scenes, full voice acting and destructive fights. You get a choice of various scenarios which will unlock periodically as you progress. Every character has their own place in the story, and their own story arc you can follow through with. We are still fairly early on in the story itself, but there definitely seems to be a lot of fights and cut-scenes to binge on.

As for the fighting itself, there are quite a few new additions. Though the core gameplay still revolves around timed attacks and countering your opponent, there is a new special combo string called Fatal Rush. When you are fighting, you build up a rush metre which when full you can unleash a Fatal Rush combo. This combo effectively deals a lot of damage to your opponent and if you succeed in landing all hits will end with a devastating finisher which will both physically and visibly deal damage to your opponent. It was fun seeing parts of clothes get torn, or even simple things like a fighters hair braid breaking as a result of these Fatal Rush combos.

There is also a new level of realism to the game, actions you take can cause dirt to cover your clothes, sweat to come from you and even see results such as blood and busted bones if the right circumstances are met. Though we want to quickly mention as is probably a fairly hot topic – yes the jiggle physics are still as crazy as ever, especially for the girls that have not-so-tight outfits on.

As well as all of the above, other game modes include your standard Fight modes, which are the standard Arcade, vs CPU/Friends, Time Attack and Survival, generally what you expect from a fighting game. There is also an extensive Training mode for all you inexperienced players out there, or if you just want to brush up on your skills. Lastly there is Online mode, where you can (at least as of right now) play in Ranked matches against fellow fighters across the world.

Our thoughts so far on the game have been rather positive. The game looks and functions very well, there seems to be a ton of content to immerse yourself in for both Online competitive fans and solo play fans. We do have some complaints however, such as the loading times can sometimes be rather long, and isn’t helped that the loading screens are often a bland black screen you have to stare at. Another issue is how Nyotengu and Phase 4 are integrated. They are in the game, and the AI can pick and choose them to fight against you, however if you try to customise or play as them you are greeted with a “You do not have the license for this character” screen. It seems very bait-ey to get people to buy these characters when they eventually go on sale.

All in all we like it so far, and can recommend it. Though our full review will get much more nit and gritty on details and highlight more what Online play can offer. Look forward to that in the coming days!

It is the first day of a new month, and with this date comes the official worldwide launch of tournament fighter Dead or Alive 6. You can now purchase the game on Playstation 4, XBOX One and PC via Steam.

Check out below on the story premise you are getting yourselves in to:

About

Dead or Alive 6 is fast-paced 3D fighting game, produced by Koei Tecmo Games, featuring stunning graphics and multi-tiered stages that create a truly entertaining competitive experience.

Introducing the Dead or Alive Series

The Dead or Alive franchise is a AAA fighting game series produced by Koei Tecmo Games’ Team Ninja. Composed of fast-paced 3D fighting games that began with the original Dead or Alive arcade game in 1996, and have since appeared on a multitude of consoles and arcade machines around the world. In Dead or Alive 6, the world of Dead or Alive is brought back more vibrant than ever, featuring both enhanced visuals and an updated combat systems, aimed to provide the highest possible level of new fighting entertainment.

Story

The story will follow the events of Dead or Alive 5, focusing on two separate main narratives; namely, the battle between “Ninja and DOATEC” versus “M.I.S.T. lead by Donovan,” and the events that occur during the 6th Dead or Alive Tournament. New side story episodes will also be added for returning characters.

Key Features

–The New Visuals – With the help of a new graphics engine, Dead or Alive 6 aims to bring visual entertainment of fighting games to an entirely new level. The graphics are made to be both enticingly beautiful and realistic, bringing out enhanced facial expressions, such special effects as depiction of sweat and dirt on character models, and realistic hit effects.
–The Triangle System – Following the tradition, fights in Dead or Alive 6 are based on a triangle system: strikes beat throws, throws beat holds, and holds beat strikes. Landing a well-timed attack of the type that beats your opponent’s attack, like landing a strike when an opponent tries to throw, will result in a Hi Counter attack and do more damage.
–New Combat Mechanics: Break System – In this new title, we are introducing a new Special Move Gauge (Break Gauge) to the Dead or Alive series, adding a new dramatic strategic element to the fights. This element is made to be accessible and easy to use even for people who are new to the world of fighting games, and is activated by simply pressing the [RB] button.
–Break Blow – A strong, high-damage special move that knocks your opponents down. The first part of the move also parries incoming attacks, working as both an offensive and defensive move!
–Break Hold – A convenient counter technique that can also be used while the player is heavily stunned. It should only be used in tight situations due to its light-damage output.
–Fatal Rush – A powerful combo with a dramatic finishing move, activated by consecutively pressing the [RB] button. While it is made to be easy to use for beginner players, it can also be employed in more than one creative way by the experienced competitors.

New Danger Zones

–Rumble Danger – If knocked into onlookers, they will push the player back into the center of the stage. It is a trap that combines the atmosphere of a real street fight with strategy.
–Mass-Destruction – If the opponent is knocked back into a large stack of boxes or barrels with a “Break Blow” or ”Fatal Rush” it will cause a large chain-explosion. This will lead to a huge burst of damage and produces an exhilarating rush.

Lastly you can check out the nice new shiny Launch Trailer for the game too:

We want to also add a quick apology to our lack of coverage for the game thus far. We had plans to have initial impressions out earlier in the week and our review for the game today, but due to unforeseen issues all of this has been delayed until next week. We hope you understand and support our upcoming content on Dead or Alive 6!
