KOEI Warriors: Conquerors Presents – KT Game of the Year 2018 Award!

It’s that time again folks! We have just entered 2019 and we now have a look over all the KOEI Tecmo games released within the prior year, and pick out our favourite title amongst them all! Last year we gave our GOTY award to Ni-Oh, so let us see what this years pick will be!

In all fairness, 2018 hasn’t been the greatest of years for KOEI Tecmo, releasing the poorly received Dynasty Warriors 9, a bunch of re-releases or “Deluxe” editions, and a ton of collaborative titles with other companies and licenses. With that all being said, we do have some games that hold a special place in our hearts.

But before we get to the meat of the award, we have some special mentions to give! First goes to Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition – those of you who were with us in the early days may remember we gave the original title our 2014 GOTY award. We still hold the game high up and is still to this day one of the best Warriors games to date, chock full of content that’ll take 100s of hours to get through. We want to also give a mention to Dissidia: Final Fantasy NT – a game though severely lacking in single player content has struck nicely in the online competitive scene, and bringing some much loved characters to life in HD with full voice acting.

Now with the mentions out of the way, let’s get to our game of the year! Though probably obvious by now as we have been specifically avoiding mentioning it above. Probably the biggest title and most desired from KOEI Tecmo that released in 2018.

Yes that’s right, Warriors Orochi 4! While it may not be packed to the brim with content like it’s predecessor’s Ultimate form, it has over 170 unique characters with tons of battles and a long decent story to play through (and a side-mode we will pretend didn’t exist – it’s for the best). After the debacle that was Dynasty Warriors 9, bringing warriors to an open world environment and being purely a single player experience (though patched in at a later date), Warriors Orochi 4 brought back what a Warriors game is meant to be, an action packed stage filled hack n slash that you can enjoy alone or with friends.

You can check out our full thoughts on the game in our review here, and we are glad that KOEI Tecmo stayed true to the Warriors spirit with this game and didn’t tread too far into gimmick territory. With the game also still receiving post-release content, we hope the game continues to expand far into 2019. Here’s to KOEI Tecmo in having a promising 2019!

Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends Definitive Edition is out now on Nintendo Switch!

Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends Definitive Edition is out now exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide! (aside that surprise Windows Store release) The game itself is the most complete edition of Dynasty Warriors 8 you’ll get your hands on, and now with the added bonus of being able to take it on the go!

The game includes both the base game of Dynasty Warriors 8 as well as Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends, and along with that (excluding some sponsored content) all the DLC for both games will also be included. Tons of scenarios, remade battlefields from earlier Dynasty Warriors games, Weapons and many many Costumes for the warriors.

Pick it up now on the Nintendo eShop for £34.99/€39.99/$39.99, but within the first week you can get an additional 10% off your purchase! Some added details, the game is 15.8GB in size, allows single joycon play for multiplayer and supports the Nintendo Switch Online Service’s cloud saves.

We will likely have a review up for this game sometime early in the new year just in case you aren’t sure if this game holds up on the Switch worthy of a purchase or not. As well as us not having a review currently up for the old Complete Edition either, we’ll finally have something up for this title so keep an eye out for that!

Eliot and Brad Wong step up to the fight in Dead or Alive 6!

More returning veterans have been confirmed to be making their way to the 6th tournament of Dead or Alive. Eliot first debut’d in Dead or Alive 4 and Brad Wong debut’d in Dead or Alive 3. Along with the return of these two characters, a new stage has been revealed, simply known as ‘Unforgettable’.

If you are unaware who the two characters are you can read both their official bio’s below:

Eliot Biography:
“Eliot is an orphan, and he remains uncertain of why his master chose him to be his one and only disciple. It is in search of an answer to this that he has decided to enter the 4th Tournament. In order to hone his skills, he has left his master’s side and set off on a journey of self-discovery. Where, for some reason, he soon found himself accompanied by Brad Wong. Eventually, his training paid off, and he was able to learn the legendary Xinyi Liuhe Quan, entering the 6th DOA Tournament as a truly first-rate martial artist.”

Brad Wong Biography:
“A master of Zui Ba Xian Quan, he can usually be found with a drink in his hand. Aloof and never flustered, he loves women almost as much as he loves good liquor. He was spending his days training in the remote mountains of China, until his master ordered him to go on a journey to search for a legendary mysterious liquor. He has entered the 3rd and 4th Tournaments, but skipped the 5th, joining Eliot on his travels. His reasons for entering the tournament are unclear.”

The roster of Dead or Alive 6 is starting to grow quite nicely, with many veteran and new fighters alike. With the announcement of these two fighters coming back a trailer featuring both them and the new stage were released and can be viewed below:

Dead or Alive 6 will be releasing February 15th 2019 worldwide for PS4, XB1 and PC via Steam.

A surprise release of Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends Definitive Edition comes to PC, but only for Windows Store

In a strange turn of events, just like KOEI Tecmo surprise releasing Dynasty Warriors 7 Xtreme Legends Definitive Edition for Steam, they have done another sneaky release but this time for Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends Definitive Edition – originally thought to be exclusive to Nintendo Switch.

However, the biggest surprise of all is that the title is not being released on Steam (Likely due to the Complete Edition and DLC being on sale still), but has released only on the Windows Store. You can check out the store page here, and purchase it now.

For further details, you can read the official description for the game below:

“Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends” introduces entirely new levels of fun to the refreshing gameplay vanquishing swarms of enemies with mighty warriors found in “Dynasty Warriors 8.”
A premium edition that includes most of the DLC! (some collaboration DLC not included)
In story mode, where you can immerse yourself in the vivid tales of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, it is now possible to play as the mighty warrior “Lu Bu,” and embark on a journey that depicts his way of life. Additionally, many new hypothetical scenarios to existing Romance of the Three Kingdoms battles have been added, as well as new playable characters, weapons types, growth/speedrun elements, and more! What’s more, a revamped Ambition Mode and completely new Challenge Mode offer whole new ways to enjoy the “Dynasty Warriors 8” universe.

The game comes in at 24.74GB and seems to only offer local play. The game also comes with English, French and Deutsch language support. So if you have a Windows 10 device compatible with the Windows Store, then this may be up your street if you’ve yet to delve into the world of Dynasty Warriors 8. Otherwise you can wait for the Nintendo Switch version releasing December 27th worldwide. There is currently no word if this edition will be releasing on Steam or other PC storefronts.

A beefy Dragon Quest Builders 2 gameplay trailer has launched along with more details on post-launch content!

As we have reported before, KOEI Tecmo is working alongside Square-Enix on their upcoming Dragon Quest Builders 2 game, focusing on their “action segment” gameplay. The game itself launches this week (20th December to be precise) in Japan, and is planned to release in the West sometime during 2019.

The game will be coming to both PS4 and Nintendo Switch, and both will be receiving post-launch content in the form of DLC throughout 2019. So far two pieces of content have been detailed, which you can find the full details below:

Add-On DLC #1 (April 2019)

20-plus item recipes

Add-On DLC #2 (May 2019)

10-plus item recipes
System additions

What the item recipes and system additions are specifically we will have to wait and see for Square-Enix to reveal more information about them.
