Gust’s Surge Concerto series is getting a new lease on life with DX editions!

Gust and KOEI Tecmo Japan have announced that their Surge Concerto series; made up of Ciel nosurge and Ar nosurge, will be getting a new lease on life with DX editions. While us folks in the West had only been treated to Ar nosurge ~Ode to an Unborn Star~ on PS3 back in 2014, we are now seeing both parts of the story resurface.

We never got the chance to experience Ciel nosurge ~Requiem for a Lost Star~ with it being a Playstation Vita exclusive in Japan, probably due to how the game focused on a lot of online mechanics. By time an “offline” version of the game appeared, the Vita was well on it’s way out in the West. We did however get a Vita version of Ar nosurge back when Gust would do yearly “Plus” upgrades for the portable in 2015.

No news currently on platforms or a release date (let alone a Western release), but it is likely to hit the usual suspects of PS4, Switch and PC. You can check out a teaser trailer below:

Ni-Oh 2’s first major add-on ‘The Tengu’s Disciple’ launches this July!

It has been a few months now since Ni-Oh 2 launched back in March, and we finally have news on the first of a three part DLC arc for the title. The first chapter is called The Tengu’s Disciple, and will be a prequel to the events of the main game focusing on the first samurai. You can read the full description from Team Ninja below:

We’re planning to release a total of three sizable and badass downloadable content batches over the next several months to provide you guys with additional challenges to keep you on the edge-of-your-seat. There will be new storylines, new yokai, ferocious new bosses, Guardian Spirits, new skills, fresh armor, and a new weapon that alters the performance of skills outside of set stances.

On top of all that, new difficulty levels and end-game content will be added to allow the campaign to grow longer, giving you guys even more content to start your summer gaming adventures! I’m happy to announce that the first of these thrilling downloadable content packs called “The Tengu’s Disciple” will kick off on July 30. Also, as an added bonus we have prepared brand new wallpapers inspired by the upcoming downloadable content to keep you guys motivated as you wait for the new chapter to arrive in July. We hope you will be pleased with what you see!

Speaking of the upcoming downloadable content chapters, here are some clues and context into the storyline of the continuing Nioh 2 saga:

A great battle has taken place at Yashima in the late Heian period. As a visitor in Yashima, our protagonist finds a shrine possessing a mysterious whistle called the Sohayamaru. Upon inspection, the whistle shines radiantly as the shadow of Yokai can be seen lurking in the background. It is revealed that whenever wars take place, heroes wielding the Sohayamaru will head into battle in order to restore peace back into this land.

More in-depth details regarding “The Tengu’s Disciple” will be released in the coming months, so please stay tuned.

Ni-Oh 2’s The Tengu’s Disciple will be launching July 30th worldwide as a stand alone DLC or as part of the Season Pass. Ni-Oh 2 is out now exclusively for the Playstation 4.

Dynasty Warriors 9 Mobile officially coming to the West!

We have a small update regarding the upcoming mobile port of Dynasty Warriors 9, which Nexon Korea and KOEI Tecmo Japan announced back in 2019. During Nexon Korea’s 2019 Fiscal Results report, it was shown that Dynasty Warriors 9 Mobile is indeed coming to North America and Europe, along with other countries outside of Asia.

We also have an update from an even more recent fiscal results report from Q1 2020 being that the game is still in steady development and has not been halted at all due to the recent Covid-19 atrocities.

Hopefully some actual information on the title will be revealed soon. Until then you can enjoy the other Nexon produced title; Dynasty Warriors Unleashed.

KOEI Tecmo to attend NGPX livestream event this June! New game reveals expected!

With the fall of the massive gaming expo’s around the world currently, we have been seeing new contenders take up the torch and throw their hat into the ring. Along with Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest, a new Expo livestream event has been announced. The expo is called New Game+ Expo – or NGPX for short – and it has a bevy of developers and publishers signed to be a part of the event.

It has also confirmed that KOEI Tecmo will be one of those participants (along with others such as ASKYS, Atlus, Sega. NIS, etc) that will be showing off new games and live gameplay demos. According to the Event page we will also be able to look forward to developer discussions and Q&As.

The event will be going live June 23rd at 8AM PDT / 4PM BST and the livestream starting at 9AM PDT / 5PM BST until 5PM PDT / 12AM BST. You can watch the livestream on Twitch via https://www.twitch.tv/newgameplusexpo, though the footage along with highlights will be uploaded to YouTube soon after.

It is still somewhat likely that KOEI Tecmo’s involvement will be minor and only dabbling on a few tidbits for Fairy Tail which releases a couple days after, but the emphasis on new game reveals and first looks seem to say otherwise. Hopefully we will finally see what else is up KT’s sleeve for this year!

Get back into Ni-Oh 2 with these free new missions!

Late last week Team Ninja has released a big update for Playstation 4 exclusive Ni-Oh 2. One of the major additions in this update was a bunch of free missions you can enjoy. You can read below the full details of the added missions:

Added New Missions

The Chinese Bellflower Dagger – Shadow – Unlocked by clearing the main missions in “Shadow.”
The Child Prodigy’s Invitation – Shadow – Unlocked by clearing the side mission, “The Golden Nation.”
A Strong Bond – Shadow – Unlocked by clearing the main missions in “Twilight.”
Farewell to the Past – Twilight – Unlocked by clearing the main missions in “Twilight.”
Winds of Ruin – Afterglow – Unlocked by clearing the main missions in “Afterglow.”
The Trustworthy – Afterglow – Unlocked by clearing the main missions in “Afterglow.”
Wave of Terror – Afterglow – Unlocked by clearing the main missions in “Afterglow.”
Calamity’s Pulse – Afterglow – Unlocked by clearing the main missions in “Afterglow.”
Mountain of the Dark Lord (Twilight Mission) – Unlocked by clearing the main missions in “Dawn.”

*These missions do not affect the conditions for obtaining the trophy “Samurai of Legend,” or the “Mission Achievement Rate” in “Dream of the Strong.”

*As is the case for other Twilight missions, the “Mountain of the Dark Lord” mission will appear at regular intervals.

That’s a total of 8 new missions and an added Twilight Mission for you to dig your teeth into. So now is better than ever to get back to slaying those Yokai!

Ni-Oh 2 is out now worldwide exclusively for Playstation 4.
