Last week Nintendo held their final Nintendo Direct for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which is releasing exclusively for the Nintendo Switch December 7th. Along with a miriad of new information, characters and such, it was a nice surprise to see a new Assist Trophy for the game. This new Assist Trophy is the lead female from Fatal Frame / Project Zero 5: Maiden of Black Water; Yuri Kuzokata. Using the famed ‘Fatal Frame’ camera obscura she unleashes the Camera’s power to freeze combatants in place and have them scurry off in fear.
This isn’t the first time Fatal Frame / Project Zero has been featured in a Smash Brothers title however, with Mayu and Mio Amakura (of Fatal Frame / Project Zero 2 fame) featuring as a collectable Trophy in past titles. Though with Super Smash Brothers Ultimate not having these collectable Trophies, they will have a new system called “Spirits”, which feature tons of characters from numerous different game franchises. It is likely that more KOEI Tecmo characters could appear and feature as a Spirit within Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but we’ll have to wait and find out closer to release who if anyone makes it!
You can check the reveal for Yuri Kozukata below:
What are your thoughts on Fatal Frame / Project Zero getting continued representation in Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. series? Who else would you like to see involved, be it trophy, fighter or spirit? Let us know in those comments!
