Hey everyone! A quick note before we start this segments info batch. We want to apologise for how late we are with continuing with this, and from now on things should be speedier with us getting the information out there. Now without further ado, here it is.
In today’s segment, we will be looking at one of the biggest new things to come to the Dynasty Warriors series; the open world of China! With how big China is, and how seamless KOEI Tecmo / Omega Force want the game to be between exploration and the battles, this is definitely an ambitious feature for them to have. There are quite a few reasons behind why Omega Force chose to go this route, but mainly it was due to wanting to get out of the same rut the Warriors franchise seems to be stuck in, and to challenge themselves with a completely new way of programming and creating their projects. There is also a heavy amount of reference taken from Toukiden 2’s style of Open World. So if you have played that game, you may have a small idea of how things could work out.
All of China will be recreated in this game, with focus on the liveable and more Three Kingdoms war centric. Of course it won’t be a 1:1 scale, that would be ridiculous for a game with current technology available, however to give a gist of how big the world in Dynasty Warriors 9 will be, Luoyang will be roughly 1 kilometre squared in size, and it will also take you roughly five minutes to swim across the famous rivers (Such as The Yellow River) scattered around China. You can improve crossing the land of China quicker, with horses, carts and boats. To keep immersion of you actually in China, there will also be a Time based and Weather based settings that’ll change during your time in China.
Omega Force have confirmed there will be 10 unique cities (such as Luoyang mentioned before), along with several other villages, towns, camps and such you can explore throughout your travels of China. You will use these cities as your hub for shopping, getting new equipment, side missions (we will talk more in a future segment) and much more. You will also be able to enter cities while major battles are progressing, just to continue to show how seamless Omega Force wants the game to feel and be.
To add on how you can travel around the world of China. The main method will of course be riding on a horse. However, for those impatient nellies out there, you will be able to use a Fast Travel mechanic that will automatically warp you to certain places. How this will work is still yet to be revealed, but chances are it will be very similar to current open world games we see. Swimming comes back from Dynasty Warriors 6, where you’ll be able to swim any forms of water, including the several major rivers in China. There are also other methods of traversing, such as the new unique Grapple Hook, that’ll allow you to scale cliff sides, walls and other obstacles in your path. With all this there will be a LOT of variation on what you can do and how you can traverse the open world of China!
That’s it for this one. We hope this gives you a far better idea of what to expect with the Open World side of the game, and we will be back with more news and information in our next segment soon!
I would like to know if this will be launched for PC too.
No platforms have been confirmed for the West. Only currently PS4 for Japan. However it isn’t confirmed as ONLY PS4 in West, so keep an eye out for future news.
Will do! Thanks!
