Hey everyone, this is the first of many information batch’s where we will look over all the new features, systems and anything new and interesting about the upcoming new Dynasty Warriors 9 title. In this first batch, we will be looking at some gameplay features along with the newly created battle gameplay known as the State Combo system.
As we know, the biggest thing is that the game is fully open world, to add immersion to the world of China, allowing you to travel around the entire country recreated and rendered from the ground up for the Playstation 4. Instead of going from stage to stage from a menu, you will be physically travelling from battlefield to battlefield, city to city, region to region. Though we will go more into detail in it’s own Info Batch segment soon. But with this new type of open world gameplay, there comes to be new features and interactions you can perform within the world around you.
To continue with this immersion of how the player reacts, the State Combo system comes into play. There are now three different forms of attack styles, which vary based on how the battle situation shows itself. If you are surrounded by enemies, you will perform different attacks to how you would if you were fighting individual enemies.
The first form of attack is called “Trigger Attack”. This is the move that always will stay the same at the start of each of your combo strings. After you have performed the “Trigger Attack”, you then move onto “Flow Attack”. This is the part of your moveset that will change depending on your environment and enemy formations. “Flow Attack”s will change, in example if enemies have just been blown away by your “Trigger Attack”, you will then perform a “Drive Flow” which will pursue said enemies to continue your combo. If your Trigger knocked enemies into the air, you will then perform a “Aerial Flow” which will launch you in the air to deliver a powerful air combo. There are several different combinations that can occur depending how you attack, and what the enemies do against you. Lastly you have the “Finish Attack”, which is your typical finisher move, which will launch a devastating attack to finish off your combo string.
As well there are new interactions you can make during or outside of battle. Such as being able to interact with various objects within the world – such as Catapults. You can also now scale walls with the Grapple Hook action, so you aren’t restricted with just charging enemies in hopes a gate will open to allow you to progress forward. You can also use the Grapple Hook to climb high mountains for further exploration! You are also able to fully swim again, and is actually useful (like Dynasty Warriors 6), allowing you to swim across the great rivers of China and more to sneak up on enemies and more. There are even more environment based actions you can take, such as using oil cans to set fire to enemies or landscapes and much more!
So this is starting to look very compelling and looks like KOEI Tecmo and Omega Force have really put in a lot of effort to finally change up by what now is relatively stale combat, to bring the most immersive Dynasty Warriors to date.
What do you think of the State Combo System? Are you excited to try out all these new stylish ways to defeat enemies? Let us know in the comments!
Finally a new type of gameplay and open world.I’ve been waiting years for this to happen.
